In recent years, global urban centers densification has led to reduced open spaces favoring residential and employment areas. Tel Aviv embodies these tendencies, with a rising population and increasing demand for nearby sports facilities. The city hosts centrally located multi-story parking lots, often underutilized spaces with high load-bearing capacities.
Globally, urban rooftops are being repurposed for communal gardens, agricultural farms, bars, and sports fields. Recognizing this trend, we developed the innovative idea of building public swimming pools on rooftops. Despite Tel Aviv’s abundance of free open sports yards, there is a significant shortage of accessible swimming pools. Most pools are situated on the outskirts and require costly memberships.
We propose establishing sustainable, smart and compact sports swimming pools on the rooftops of central parking lots, employing a "came, swam, left" model at an affordable price. This initiative would enhance Tel Aviv's reputation for leisure innovation.
